Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communications Dispatcher to join our team. As a Communications Dispatcher, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens by swiftly and effectively responding to emergency calls and dispatching appropriate resources. To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of two years of experience as a Communications Dispatcher, preferably in a law enforcement or emergency services setting. You must also have a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to type at least 35 words per minute, and possess a valid California driver's license. Additionally, you must have excellent multitasking abilities, remain calm under pressure, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.   1. Respond to emergency calls and dispatch appropriate resources in a timely and efficient manner.
  2. Maintain communication with emergency responders and provide updates as needed.
  3. Remain calm and professional while handling high-stress situations.
  4. Utilize computer systems and software to accurately record and track all incoming calls and dispatches.
  5. Ensure all necessary information is gathered from callers and properly relayed to responders.
  6. Follow established protocols and procedures for dispatching emergency services.
  7. Monitor and maintain radio communications with emergency responders.
  8. Provide excellent customer service to callers and responders.
  9. Continuously monitor and assess incoming calls and prioritize responses accordingly.
  10. Keep accurate records of all calls and dispatches.
  11. Collaborate with other dispatchers and emergency personnel to effectively handle emergencies and provide support when needed.
  12. Attend and participate in trainings and meetings as required.
  13. Maintain a professional demeanor and uphold the values and mission of the City of Santa Rosa.
  14. Adhere to all laws and regulations pertaining to emergency dispatch services.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Job Qualifications
  • Previous Experience As A Communications Dispatcher: A Minimum Of Two Years Of Experience In Emergency Dispatch Operations, Preferably In A Municipal Or Public Safety Agency.

  • Proficiency In Emergency Communication Technology: Familiarity And Experience With Computer-Aided Dispatch (Cad) Systems, Radio Dispatch Equipment, And Other Emergency Communication Tools And Software.

  • Knowledge Of Emergency Protocols And Procedures: Thorough Understanding Of Emergency Response Protocols, Including Police, Fire, And Medical Procedures, And Ability To Effectively Apply Them In High-Pressure Situations.

  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent Verbal And Written Communication Skills, Including The Ability To Communicate Clearly And Concisely With Emergency Personnel And The Public. Ability To Remain Calm And Professional During Stressful Situations.

  • Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: Demonstrated Ability To Multitask, Prioritize, And Maintain Composure Under Pressure. Willingness To Work Rotating Shifts, Weekends, And Holidays As Needed.
