The City of San Mateo is currently seeking a highly motivated Recreation Program Specialist to join our team and help us provide engaging and fun programs for our residents. As a Recreation Program Specialist, you will have the opportunity to use your skills and expertise to plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of recreational activities and events that promote physical, social, and cultural well-being. We are looking for candidates who possess a strong understanding of recreational programming, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a positive attitude.   1. Plan and coordinate a variety of recreational activities and events for diverse communities.
  2. Ensure programs and events align with the City's mission and values.
  3. Develop and implement innovative and engaging programs that promote physical, social, and cultural well-being.
  4. Collaborate with community organizations and partners to enhance program offerings and reach a wider audience.
  5. Manage program budgets and resources effectively.
  6. Recruit, train, and supervise program staff and volunteers.
  7. Communicate effectively with participants, staff, and community members to promote programs and address any concerns or feedback.
  8. Evaluate program success and make recommendations for improvements.
  9. Ensure programs are inclusive and accessible to all community members.
  10. Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols in organizing and conducting programs.
  11. Stay current on industry trends and best practices in recreational programming.
  12. Represent the City at community events and meetings related to recreational activities.
  13. Maintain accurate records and reports of program attendance, revenue, and expenses.
  14. Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude in all interactions with colleagues, participants, and community members.
  15. Uphold the City's policies and procedures in all aspects of program planning and implementation.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Recreation Management, Parks And Recreation Administration, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Planning And Implementing Recreation Programs, Preferably In A Municipal Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Industry Best Practices And Trends In Recreation Program Development And Management.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With A Diverse Community.

  • Cpr And First Aid Certification, Or Ability To Obtain Within The First 3 Months Of Employment.
