- Provide legal advice and guidance to the City of San Jose on a wide range of issues, including but not limited to municipal law, employment law, land use and zoning, contracts, and litigation matters.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support the City's decision-making processes and ensure legal compliance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents and agreements on behalf of the City.
- Represent the City in various legal proceedings, including administrative hearings, civil litigation, and appeals.
- Collaborate with City officials, departments, and outside counsel to develop and implement legal strategies that align with the City's goals and objectives.
- Stay current on new laws, regulations, and court decisions that may impact the City's operations and provide proactive recommendations to ensure compliance.
- Manage and supervise the work of junior attorneys and legal support staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Foster positive working relationships with City departments, elected officials, and community stakeholders to effectively communicate legal advice and promote the City's interests.
- Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the City's legal operations.
- Maintain the highest level of ethical standards and professional conduct, upholding the City's values of integrity, accountability, and respect for diversity.
Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree From An Accredited Law School
Active Membership In Good Standing With The State Bar Of California
Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience As A Practicing Attorney, Preferably In Municipal Law Or Government Litigation
Strong Knowledge Of Federal, State, And Local Laws And Regulations Relevant To Municipal Government
Excellent Communication And Advocacy Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Represent The City Of San Jose In Court And In Negotiations With Outside Parties.
