- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and accurately record information
- Dispatch appropriate emergency services, including police, fire, and medical personnel
- Monitor multiple radio frequencies and communicate effectively with emergency responders
- Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all communications and dispatch activities
- Utilize computer-aided dispatch systems to efficiently manage and prioritize emergency calls
- Remain calm and composed while handling high-stress and time-sensitive situations
- Continuously update and maintain knowledge of policies, procedures, and protocols related to emergency response
- Provide excellent customer service to callers and maintain a professional and respectful demeanor at all times
- Collaborate with other dispatchers and first responders to effectively coordinate emergency responses
- Participate in training programs to develop and improve skills related to dispatching and public safety
- Adhere to strict confidentiality and security protocols to protect sensitive information
- Demonstrate a commitment to the safety and well-being of the community and the department's mission.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For The Position, This Ensures That Candidates Have A Basic Level Of Education And Knowledge To Perform The Job Duties.
Strong Communication Skills: Public Safety Radio Dispatchers Must Be Able To Communicate Clearly And Effectively With Emergency Responders, Callers, And Other Dispatchers In A High-Stress Environment.
Multi-Tasking Abilities: Dispatchers Must Be Able To Handle Multiple Tasks Simultaneously, Such As Answering Phone Calls, Dispatching Emergency Responders, And Entering Data Into Computer Systems.
Ability To Work Well Under Pressure: Emergency Situations Can Be Chaotic And Stressful, So It Is Essential For Public Safety Radio Dispatchers To Remain Calm And Focused During High-Pressure Situations.
Knowledge Of Emergency Procedures And Protocols: Candidates Should Have A Basic Understanding Of Emergency Response Procedures And Protocols, As Well As Knowledge Of The Geographic Area And Streets Within The City Of San Jose.
