- Ensure the safety of all individuals using the City of San Jose's pools and aquatic facilities.
- Monitor and enforce all rules and regulations to prevent accidents and maintain a safe environment.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to any emergency situations, including performing water rescues and administering first aid when necessary.
- Maintain knowledge and proficiency in all lifeguarding and CPR techniques and skills.
- Conduct regular safety checks of pool equipment and ensure proper maintenance and functioning.
- Serve as a role model for the community by demonstrating responsible behavior and promoting water safety practices.
- Teach and educate individuals of all ages and skill levels in water safety and basic swimming techniques.
- Provide instruction and training for new lifeguards, including conducting drills and simulations.
- Maintain accurate records of pool usage, accidents, and incident reports.
- Communicate effectively with pool staff, supervisors, and the general public.
- Attend all required training sessions and meetings to stay updated on safety procedures and policies.
- Assist with pool maintenance tasks as needed.
- Uphold the City of San Jose's mission and values while representing the organization as a lifeguard and instructor.
- Act as a positive and professional representative of the City of San Jose at all times.
- Continuously strive to improve and enhance the overall safety and experience for all individuals using the City's pools and aquatic facilities.
Current Cpr, First Aid, And Lifeguard Certification From A Recognized Organization Such As The Red Cross Or Ellis & Associates.
Previous Experience As A Lifeguard Or Swim Instructor, Preferably In A Public Pool Setting.
Strong Communication Skills And Ability To Effectively Interact With Patrons Of All Ages And Backgrounds.
Knowledge Of Basic Water Safety And Rescue Techniques, Including The Ability To Quickly Identify And Respond To Emergencies.
Availability To Work Flexible Hours, Including Evenings And Weekends, As Well As The Ability To Pass A Background Check And Drug Screening.
