- Conduct inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
- Enforce compliance with building codes and regulations through appropriate action, such as issuing violations and stop-work orders.
- Review building plans and specifications to ensure they meet code requirements and approve or deny permits accordingly.
- Communicate with contractors, developers, and property owners to provide guidance and clarification on building codes and regulations.
- Document all inspection findings and maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and permits.
- Identify potential safety hazards and make recommendations for corrective action.
- Stay up-to-date on changes to building codes and regulations, and ensure compliance with new requirements.
- Work collaboratively with other city departments, such as zoning and planning, to ensure comprehensive and efficient building inspections.
- Train and mentor junior building inspectors to ensure consistent and accurate inspection practices.
- Represent the city at public meetings and hearings related to building code enforcement.
- Investigate complaints from the public regarding potential code violations and take appropriate action.
- Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with corrective actions.
- Provide excellent customer service to the public and maintain positive relationships with contractors and property owners.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously improve knowledge and skills related to building codes and regulations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while conducting inspections and working in the field.
Minimum Education And Certification Requirements: The Candidate Must Possess A High School Diploma Or Equivalent, As Well As A Valid Certification As A Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/Ii/Iii/Senior From A Recognized Agency Or Organization.
Extensive Knowledge Of Building Codes And Regulations: The Ideal Candidate Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Building Codes And Regulations, As Well As The Ability To Interpret And Enforce Them Effectively.
Relevant Work Experience: A Minimum Of 2-5 Years Of Experience In Building Inspection, Plan Review, Or Construction Is Required For This Position. Previous Experience In A Similar Role At A Municipal Agency Is Preferred.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Building Inspectors Are Required To Communicate Effectively With Contractors, Homeowners, And Other Stakeholders, So Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills Are Essential. Additionally, The Ability To Work Collaboratively With Team Members And Provide Exceptional Customer Service Is Highly Valued.
