  1. Perform regular maintenance and repairs on traffic signal equipment and systems.
  2. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with traffic signals and implement effective solutions.
  3. Conduct inspections and complete necessary paperwork to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  4. Install, program, and maintain traffic signal equipment, including controllers, cabinets, and sensors.
  5. Collaborate with other team members and departments to coordinate traffic signal projects and upgrades.
  6. Respond to emergency situations and provide quick and efficient solutions to minimize traffic disruptions.
  7. Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment inventory.

  10. Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while working on or near roadways.
  11. Assist in training and mentoring new team members.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Traffic Signal Technician I Position At City Of San Diego Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Demonstrates A Basic Level Of Education And Competence In Reading And Writing.

  • Relevant Work Experience: Previous Work Experience In A Related Field, Such As Traffic Control Or Electrical Maintenance, Is Highly Desirable. This Experience Should Include Practical Knowledge Of Traffic Signal Systems, Electrical Circuitry, And Troubleshooting Techniques.

  • Knowledge Of Traffic Signal Equipment And Systems: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess A Working Knowledge Of Traffic Signal Equipment And Systems, Including Traffic Signal Controllers, Signal Heads, Pedestrian Signals, And Detection Devices. This Knowledge Should Include An Understanding Of Basic Electrical Principles And The Ability To Read And Interpret Technical Schematics.

  • Familiarity With Safety Protocols: A Traffic Signal Technician I Must Be Able To Work Safely Around Electrical Equipment And In High Traffic Areas. Knowledge Of Safety Protocols And Procedures, Such As Lockout/Tagout And Personal Protective Equipment, Is Essential To Ensure The Safety Of Themselves And Others.

  • Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills: As A Member Of A Team Responsible For Maintaining The City's Traffic Signal Infrastructure, A Traffic Signal Technician I Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Co-Workers, Supervisors, And Other City Employees. They Should Have A Positive Attitude, Be Able To Work Well In A Team Environment, And Possess Strong Problem-Solving Skills.
