Job Description

  1. Uphold and enforce all federal, state, and local laws and regulations in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  2. Protect the citizens of San Diego by preventing and investigating crimes, responding to emergency situations, and promoting public safety.
  3. Maintain a high level of physical and mental fitness, as well as proficiency in the use of firearms and other necessary equipment.
  4. Communicate effectively and professionally with fellow officers, citizens, and other agencies in a variety of situations.
  5. Demonstrate sound judgement and decision-making skills in potentially dangerous and stressful situations.
  6. Conduct thorough and accurate investigations, gather evidence, and testify in court as needed.
  7. Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current on best practices and new technologies in law enforcement.
  8. Build and maintain positive relationships with the diverse communities of San Diego by actively engaging and collaborating with community members and organizations.
  9. Serve as a role model and mentor to new officers and assist in their training and development.
  10. Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, as well as ethical standards, at all times.
  11. Represent the City of San Diego and the Police Department with the utmost professionalism and integrity.
  12. Maintain accurate and detailed reports and documentation related to daily activities and incidents.
  13. Work closely with other law enforcement agencies and departments to coordinate efforts and share information.
  14. Respond to calls for assistance, provide aid and support to those in need, and de-escalate potentially volatile situations.
  15. Continuously evaluate and assess potential risks and hazards in the community and take appropriate measures to mitigate them.
  16. Remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  17. Demonstrate sensitivity and respect towards individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultural traditions.
  18. Serve as a positive ambassador for the City of San Diego and the Police Department, promoting a safe and welcoming environment for all residents and visitors.

Job Qualifications
  • Minimum Of Two Years Of Experience As A Police Officer In A Municipal Or County Law Enforcement Agency.

  • Completion Of A Certified Police Academy Training Program.

  • Possession Of A Valid California Driver's License.

  • Ability To Pass A Thorough Background Investigation, Including A Polygraph Examination.

  • Must Be A U.s. Citizen And At Least 21 Years Of Age At Time Of Appointment.
