  1. Receive and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for service in a timely and efficient manner.
  2. Coordinate with first responders to ensure proper and timely response to emergency situations.
  3. Remain calm and composed under pressure, exhibiting excellent communication skills while interacting with callers and first responders.
  4. Use critical thinking skills to gather and relay accurate information to first responders.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all calls and dispatch activities.
  6. Monitor multiple communication channels and prioritize calls based on urgency and severity.
  7. Utilize computer-aided dispatch systems to document and track all calls and dispatch activities.
  8. Collaborate with other dispatchers and emergency personnel to provide seamless and effective response to emergency situations.
  9. Stay updated on protocols and procedures for emergency response and ensure adherence to established guidelines.
  10. Provide critical support during major incidents or disasters, coordinating with various agencies and departments as needed.
  11. Demonstrate a strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in call documentation and dispatch activities.
  12. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while handling sensitive information.
  13. Continuously monitor and evaluate processes and procedures to identify areas for improvement and suggest solutions.
  14. Display a commitment to public service and contribute to creating a safe and secure community for all residents of the City of San Diego.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Basic Level Of Education Is Required For A Dispatcher I Position At City Of San Diego. This Ensures That The Candidate Has The Necessary Communication And Problem-Solving Skills To Perform The Job Effectively.

  • Prior Dispatch Experience: Previous Experience As A Dispatcher, Preferably In A Public Safety Or Emergency Services Environment, Is Highly Desirable. This Shows That The Candidate Has A Strong Understanding Of Dispatch Protocols And Procedures.
