Job Description

Are you an experienced Construction Estimator looking for a new opportunity? The City of San Diego is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Construction Estimator. In this role, you will be responsible for estimating the costs of construction projects for the city, ensuring accuracy and adherence to budgetary constraints.   1. Estimate construction costs for various projects within the city, including analyzing project plans, specifications, and scopes of work.
  2. Ensure accuracy and adherence to budgetary constraints in all project estimates.
  3. Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and contractors to gather necessary information for accurate estimates.
  4. Prepare detailed and comprehensive cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, and other related expenses.
  5. Review and analyze change orders, requests for information (RFIs), and other project documents to ensure accurate and timely updates to estimates.
  6. Utilize industry knowledge and experience to evaluate and recommend cost-saving measures for construction projects.
  7. Monitor market trends and prices of materials and labor to accurately reflect current market conditions in estimates.
  8. Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all estimates and related documents.
  9. Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including city officials, contractors, and project team members.
  10. Participate in project meetings to provide updates on cost estimates and address any questions or concerns.
  11. Stay informed on local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines related to construction estimating and ensure compliance.
  12. Continuously improve and update estimating processes and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  13. Contribute to the growth and development of the city by providing quality and cost-effective estimates for construction projects.
  14. Adhere to strict deadlines and prioritize tasks to meet project timelines.
  15. Uphold the city's values and ethics code in all aspects of the job.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Construction Management, Engineering, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Construction Estimating, Preferably In A Public Sector Or Municipal Setting.

  • Strong Knowledge Of Construction Methods, Materials, And Building Codes.

  • Proficiency In Construction Estimating Software And Tools, Such As Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, And Rs Means.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, As Well As The Ability To Work Collaboratively With Project Managers, Contractors, And Other Stakeholders.
