Job Description

Welcome to the City of San Diego! We are currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Associate Planner. As an Associate Planner, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our city by assisting in the development and implementation of land use policies and regulations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about urban planning and has a desire to make a positive impact on the community. To be successful in this role, you must have a Bachelor's degree in urban planning, public policy, or a related field, as well as at least two years of experience in land use planning. You should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Additionally, you must be able to work collaboratively with a diverse team and handle multiple projects simultaneously.   1. Assist in the development and implementation of land use policies and regulations for the City of San Diego.
  2. Conduct research and analysis to support planning decisions and recommendations.
  3. Collaborate with other members of the planning team to ensure consistency and accuracy in all planning efforts.
  4. Communicate with various stakeholders, including community members, developers, and government officials, to gather input and feedback on proposed plans.
  5. Review and evaluate development proposals to ensure compliance with city regulations and guidelines.
  6. Prepare presentations, reports, and other materials to communicate planning information to a diverse audience.
  7. Conduct site visits and fieldwork to gather information and assess potential impacts of proposed developments.
  8. Stay up-to-date on current planning trends, regulations, and best practices to inform decision-making.
  9. Assist in the preparation and review of environmental impact reports and other planning documents.
  10. Collaborate with other city departments and agencies to coordinate planning efforts and ensure alignment with overall city goals and initiatives.
  11. Handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  12. Maintain accurate and organized records of planning activities and decisions.
  13. Provide support and guidance to less experienced staff members.
  14. Uphold ethical and professional standards in all planning efforts.
  15. Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment within the planning team and with other city departments.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Urban Planning, Public Administration, Or A Related Field.
