  1. Perform regular maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment owned by the City of San Diego.
  2. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues and determine the appropriate course of action.
  3. Conduct inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and compliance with city, state, and federal regulations.
  4. Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repairs performed, including parts used and labor hours.
  5. Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules.
  6. Assist in managing inventory and ordering parts as needed.
  7. Safely operate and maintain all tools and equipment needed for vehicle maintenance.
  8. Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  9. Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and new technologies in vehicle maintenance.
  10. Provide excellent customer service to city employees who utilize the fleet of vehicles and equipment.
  11. Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement efficient and cost-effective maintenance practices.
  12. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  13. Adhere to established budgets and deadlines.
  14. Attend training and professional development opportunities as required.
  15. Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Education Requirement For An Assistant Fleet Technician At City Of San Diego Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Ensures The Candidate Has A Basic Level Of Education And Knowledge To Perform Job Duties.

  • Valid Driver's License: A Valid Driver's License Is A Must For An Assistant Fleet Technician As The Job Involves Driving And Operating Various Vehicles In The City's Fleet. This Also Shows That The Candidate Has A Clean Driving Record And Is Responsible Enough To Handle City Vehicles.

  • Technical Training Or Certification: A Candidate With Technical Training Or Certification In Automotive Technology, Diesel Mechanics Or Related Fields Is Preferred For This Position. This Ensures That The Candidate Has The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Troubleshoot And Repair Various Types Of Vehicles And Equipment.

  • Experience In Fleet Maintenance: Previous Experience In Fleet Maintenance, Preferably In A Municipal Or Government Setting, Is Highly Desirable For An Assistant Fleet Technician At City Of San Diego. This Experience Shows That The Candidate Has A Good Understanding Of Fleet Maintenance Procedures And Can Work Efficiently In A Fast-Paced Environment.

  • Physical Ability: The Job Of An Assistant Fleet Technician Is Physically Demanding And Requires The Candidate To Be Able To Lift Heavy Objects, Stand For Long Periods, And Work In Various Weather Conditions.
