Job Description

  1. Review and process permit and license applications accurately and efficiently.
  2. Verify that all required documents and fees are submitted in accordance with city regulations.
  3. Communicate effectively with applicants and provide guidance on the permitting process.
  4. Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, laws, and regulations.
  5. Conduct thorough inspections of permitted sites to ensure compliance with approved plans.
  6. Maintain accurate records of all permits and licenses issued.
  7. Collaborate with other city departments and outside agencies to resolve complex permitting issues.
  8. Continuously review and improve the permitting process to promote efficiency and customer service.
  9. Monitor and enforce compliance with permit conditions and deadlines.
  10. Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public regarding permits and licenses.
  11. Keep up-to-date with changes in city regulations and incorporate them into the permitting process.
  12. Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for staff and the public regarding the permitting process.
  13. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  14. Uphold a high level of customer service and effectively represent the City of Pittsburgh.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the Permits & Licensing department.

  • Knowledge Of Local Permitting Regulations: A Technician, Permits & Licensing At City Of Pittsburgh Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Local Regulations And Codes Related To Building Permits And Licensing. This Includes Knowledge Of Zoning Laws, Building Codes, And Other Relevant Regulations.

  • Strong Attention To Detail: As A Technician, Permits & Licensing, One Will Be Responsible For Reviewing And Approving Permit Applications And Licenses. This Requires A High Level Of Attention To Detail To Ensure All Necessary Information Is Accurate And Complete.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: The Role Of Technician, Permits & Licensing Involves Interacting With A Diverse Range Of Stakeholders, Including Contractors, Architects, And Property Owners. Strong Communication Skills, Both Written And Verbal, Are Essential To Effectively Communicate Permit Requirements And Resolve Any Issues That May Arise.

  • Organizational Skills: With A High Volume Of Permit Applications And Licenses To Process, A Technician, Permits & Licensing Must Be Highly Organized And Able To Manage Their Workload Efficiently. This Includes Maintaining Accurate Records, Tracking Application Statuses, And Meeting Deadlines.

  • Customer Service Orientation: A Technician, Permits & Licensing Will Often Be The First Point Of Contact For Individuals Seeking Building Permits Or Licenses. Therefore, A Customer Service-Oriented Mindset Is Crucial To Provide A Positive Experience And Assist Applicants In Navigating The Permit Process.
