Welcome to the City of Pittsburgh's Recreation Leader 1 position in our Healthy Active Living department!   1. Develop and lead recreational programs and activities that align with the department's mission of promoting healthy and active lifestyles for the community.
  2. Design and implement age-appropriate and inclusive programs that cater to individuals of all abilities.
  3. Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants, ensuring that everyone feels comfortable and included.
  4. Evaluate program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal outcomes.
  5. Collaborate with other team members to plan and coordinate events and initiatives that support the department's goals.
  6. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to program attendance, budget, and evaluations.
  7. Communicate regularly with program participants, their families, and community stakeholders to gather feedback and make improvements.
  8. Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by following departmental policies and procedures.
  9. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in recreational programming to continually improve the quality of services offered.
  10. Serve as a positive role model for participants, promoting healthy and active lifestyles through personal actions and behaviors.
  11. Uphold the values of the City of Pittsburgh and the Healthy Active Living department in all job duties and interactions.
  12. Support and assist in departmental initiatives and events outside of regular program hours, as needed.
  13. Attend staff meetings and trainings to stay informed and contribute to a collaborative and cohesive team environment.
  14. Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including maintaining proper certifications and training.
  15. Actively promote the department's programs and services to the community to increase participation and engagement.

Job Qualifications
  • Experience Working With Diverse Populations: A Recreation Leader 1 (Healthy Active Living) Should Have Experience Working With Individuals From All Backgrounds And Be Able To Create Inclusive Programs That Cater To The Needs Of All Participants.

  • Knowledge Of Healthy Living Principles: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess A Strong Understanding Of Healthy Living Principles, Including Nutrition, Physical Activity, And Mental Wellness. This Knowledge Will Be Essential In Developing And Implementing Programs That Promote Healthy Living.

  • Strong Communication Skills: As A Recreation Leader, Effective Communication With Both Participants And Colleagues Is Crucial. The Candidate Should Be Able To Communicate Clearly And Professionally, Both Verbally And In Writing.

  • Cpr And First Aid Certification: To Ensure The Safety Of Participants, A Recreation Leader 1 Should Be Certified In Cpr And First Aid. This Certification Demonstrates The Candidate's Ability To Respond To Emergency Situations That May Arise During Recreational Activities.

  • Previous Experience In Recreational Programming: Previous Experience In Planning And Leading Recreational Programs, Such As Fitness Classes, Sports Leagues, Or Outdoor Activities, Is Highly Desirable For This Role. This Experience Will Demonstrate The Candidate's Ability To Design Engaging And Effective Programs For Participants.
