
Principal Planner - RCP

- Lead and manage the development and implementation of the Regional Context Plan (RCP) for the City of Pittsburgh.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including community members, city departments, and external partners, to gather input and incorporate diverse perspectives into the RCP.
- Conduct research and analysis to inform the RCP, including data collection, mapping, and trend analysis.
- Develop and present recommendations for sustainable growth and development strategies based on best practices and the unique needs of the city.
- Manage and oversee the execution of the RCP, including coordinating with project teams and consultants, tracking progress, and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Provide technical expertise in urban planning and zoning regulations to support the development of the RCP and other city planning initiatives.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and communication throughout the planning process.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on urban planning and development issues for the city, providing guidance and recommendations to city officials and departments.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the RCP, making adjustments and recommendations as needed to ensure its success.
- Represent the city at public meetings, conferences, and other events to promote the RCP and engage with the community.
- Mentor and support junior planners and interns, providing guidance and feedback to help them develop their skills and knowledge.
- Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to urban planning and incorporate them into the RCP and other planning efforts.
- Contribute to the development of long-term strategic plans for the city and provide input on policies and initiatives related to sustainable growth and development.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to equity and inclusion in all planning efforts, ensuring that the RCP addresses the needs and concerns of all residents.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Planning and Development.
Master's Degree In Urban Planning Or A Related Field: A Principal Planner Must Have A Strong Foundation In Urban Planning Theory And Practice, Which Is Typically Acquired Through A Master's Degree Program.
Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Urban Planning: The City Of Pittsburgh Requires A Principal Planner To Have At Least 5 Years Of Experience In Urban Planning, Preferably In A Leadership Role.
Knowledge Of Local And Regional Planning Policies And Regulations: The Principal Planner Must Have A Comprehensive Understanding Of Local And Regional Planning Policies And Regulations In Order To Effectively Guide And Advise The Planning Team.
Strong Leadership And Project Management Skills: As A Principal Planner, This Role Requires The Ability To Lead A Team And Manage Multiple Projects Simultaneously, Making Strong Leadership And Project Management Skills Essential Qualifications.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: The Principal Planner Will Be Responsible For Communicating And Collaborating With Various Stakeholders, Including City Officials, Community Groups, And Other Departments Within The City Government. Therefore, Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Crucial For Success In This Role.
