- Conduct thorough inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with all relevant building codes and regulations.
- Identify and document any violations or areas of concern, and work with project managers to develop solutions for remediation.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, project managers, and other stakeholders to address any issues or concerns regarding building codes and regulations.
- Keep up-to-date with changes and updates to building codes and regulations, and incorporate them into inspection procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all inspections and findings.
- Collaborate with other inspectors and departments to coordinate inspections and ensure consistency in enforcing building codes and regulations.
- Provide guidance and support to contractors and project managers regarding compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure that any issues or violations have been addressed and resolved.
- Respond promptly to inquiries and complaints related to building codes and regulations.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to continuously improve knowledge and skills related to building codes and regulations.
- Represent the City of Pittsburgh in a professional and knowledgeable manner when interacting with the public and other agencies.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while conducting inspections.
- Collaborate with other city departments and agencies to ensure overall safety and quality of construction projects.
- Uphold the city's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the job.

Knowledge Of Building Codes And Regulations: The Inspector Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Building Codes And Regulations To Ensure Compliance During Construction Projects.
Experience In Construction Industry: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Previous Experience In The Construction Industry, Preferably In A Supervisory Or Managerial Role. This Will Provide Them With A Deeper Understanding Of The Building Process And Potential Code Violations.
Attention To Detail: As An Inspector, Attention To Detail Is Crucial In Identifying Potential Violations And Ensuring The Safety And Quality Of Construction Projects. The Candidate Should Have A Keen Eye For Detail And Be Able To Spot Even The Smallest Of Deviations From Building Codes.
Excellent Communication Skills: The Inspector Will Be Required To Communicate With Contractors, Developers, And Other Stakeholders To Explain Code Violations And Offer Suggestions For Corrective Actions. Strong Communication Skills, Both Written And Verbal, Are Essential For This Role.
Certification And Education: The City Of Pittsburgh May Require The Candidate To Have Certification In Building Code Inspection Or A Related Field. A Degree In Engineering, Architecture, Or A Related Field Is Also Preferred. The Candidate Should Also Have A Valid Driver’s License And The Ability To Operate A Variety Of Inspection Equipment And Tools.
