Job Description

  1. Conduct regular inspections of buildings and structures to ensure compliance with city codes and regulations.
  2. Identify and document any violations of building codes and work with property owners to address and correct them.
  3. Review building plans and permit applications to ensure they meet city codes and regulations.
  4. Communicate with contractors, architects, and property owners to provide guidance and clarification on building codes and regulations.
  5. Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records of inspections and code violations.
  6. Investigate complaints and reports of potential code violations and take appropriate action.
  7. Collaborate with other city departments and agencies to address code violations and promote public safety.
  8. Stay up-to-date on changes and updates to building codes and regulations to ensure accurate enforcement.
  9. Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure that code violations have been addressed and corrected.
  10. Represent the city in court cases related to building code violations, if necessary.
  11. Provide guidance and training to other city staff on building codes and regulations.
  12. Participate in outreach efforts to educate the public about building codes and safety measures.
  13. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with the public and city officials.
  14. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while conducting inspections.
  15. Uphold the city's commitment to creating a safe and sustainable community for all residents and visitors.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In A Related Field (E.g. Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management)

  • At Least 3-5 Years Of Experience In Building Inspection Or Code Enforcement

  • Thorough Knowledge Of Building Codes And Regulations, Including Local And State Codes

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Interact With A Variety Of Stakeholders Such As Contractors, Property Owners, And Other City Officials

  • Strong Attention To Detail And Ability To Accurately Assess And Document Code Violations And Enforce Corrective Actions.
