Welcome to the City of Pittsburgh! We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Inspector, Code. As an Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of buildings and structures within our city. Your keen eye for detail and knowledge of building codes and regulations will be essential in this role.   1. Conduct thorough inspections of buildings and structures within the City of Pittsburgh to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  2. Identify and document any violations or deficiencies found during inspections.
  3. Communicate with property owners and/or contractors to address and resolve any issues.
  4. Maintain accurate and organized records of inspection reports, violations, and corrective actions taken.
  5. Stay up-to-date on current building codes and regulations to ensure accurate and informed inspections.
  6. Collaborate with other city departments and officials to ensure consistent enforcement of codes and regulations.
  7. Respond promptly to any complaints or concerns from community members regarding building safety or code violations.
  8. Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with corrective actions.
  9. Provide clear and detailed reports on inspection findings to superiors and other relevant parties.
  10. Attend trainings and workshops to further enhance knowledge and skills related to building codes and regulations.
  11. Maintain a professional and positive demeanor when interacting with members of the public and other stakeholders.
  12. Represent the City of Pittsburgh in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  13. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while conducting inspections.
  14. Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to building codes and regulations.
  15. Continuously strive to improve inspection processes and procedures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Building Codes And Regulations: The Inspector Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Building Codes And Regulations At The Local, State, And Federal Levels. This Includes Knowledge Of Construction Methods, Materials, And Safety Standards.

  • Experience In Building Inspections: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Prior Experience In Conducting Building Inspections And Enforcing Code Compliance. This Will Ensure They Have A Strong Understanding Of The Inspection Process And Can Identify Potential Violations.

  • Communication Skills: As An Inspector, The Candidate Will Be Required To Communicate With Contractors, Homeowners, And Other Stakeholders To Explain Code Violations And Provide Guidance On How To Rectify Them. Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills Are Essential For This Role.

  • Attention To Detail: Inspectors Must Be Detail-Oriented And Able To Identify Even Minor Code Violations. This Requires A Keen Eye For Detail And The Ability To Review Complex Construction Plans And Documents.

  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Inspectors Must Be Able To Think Critically And Use Their Knowledge Of Building Codes To Solve Complex Problems. They May Encounter Unexpected Issues During Inspections And Must Be Able To Make Quick Decisions And Provide Solutions To Ensure Code Compliance.
