Co-Driver, Environmental Services

- Assist in the collection and proper disposal of waste and recyclable materials throughout the city.
- Operate collection vehicles in a safe and efficient manner, following all traffic laws and company policies.
- Conduct daily pre and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and report any maintenance or safety issues.
- Work alongside the driver to navigate routes and ensure timely and accurate collection of materials.
- Sort and separate recyclable materials from general waste.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisor to ensure efficient and effective collection routes.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the vehicle and collection sites.
- Participate in training and development programs to stay up-to-date on waste management practices and procedures.
- Promote and educate the public on best practices for waste and recycling management.
- Assist in special projects and events related to environmental initiatives.
- Report any issues or concerns to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude while representing the city and its environmental services department.
- Support the city's sustainability goals by actively participating in waste reduction and recycling efforts.
- Continuously seek opportunities for improvement and provide suggestions for process enhancements.
Knowledge Of Environmental Regulations: A Co-Driver, Environmental Services At The City Of Pittsburgh Must Have A Strong Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Environmental Regulations And Guidelines. This Includes Knowledge Of Waste Management, Recycling, And Air And Water Quality Control.
Experience Operating Heavy Equipment: This Position Requires Experience Operating Heavy Equipment Such As Dump Trucks, Street Sweepers, And Front-End Loaders. Candidates Should Be Able To Demonstrate Proficiency In Safely Operating And Maneuvering These Types Of Vehicles.
Physical Fitness: The Co-Driver, Environmental Services Role Involves Manual Labor And Tasks That Require Physical Fitness, Including Lifting Heavy Objects And Working In Various Weather Conditions. Candidates Should Be In Good Physical Health And Able To Perform These Duties Without Issue.
Attention To Detail: Attention To Detail Is Crucial In Environmental Services, As Even Small Mistakes Can Have Significant Consequences. The Ideal Candidate Should Be Able To Follow Instructions, Read And Understand Maps And Diagrams, And Accurately Record Data.
