- Operate and maintain the Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
- Monitor and adjust treatment processes to ensure proper treatment and disposal of wastewater.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of equipment to identify and address any issues or malfunctions.
- Collect and analyze samples to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and make necessary adjustments to treatment processes.
- Maintain accurate records of plant operations, including production, maintenance, and regulatory reporting.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any operational issues that may arise during the course of daily operations.
- Monitor and maintain chemical and supply inventories, ordering and restocking as needed.
- Assist in the implementation of new technologies and processes to improve efficiency and sustainability.
- Comply with all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to coordinate work and address any concerns or issues.
- Participate in training programs to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Promote environmental sustainability and public health by adhering to all regulations and best practices.
- Act as a positive representative of the City of Omaha and the WRRF team in all interactions with the public and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other team members to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Continuously strive to improve processes and procedures to ensure the highest level of efficiency and effectiveness.
Relevant Education And Experience: A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent, With Preference Given To Individuals With An Associate's Or Bachelor's Degree In A Related Field Such As Environmental Science, Biology, Or Engineering. Previous Experience In A Similar Role Or In Wastewater Treatment Is Also Highly Desirable.
Technical Knowledge And Training: Knowledge Of The Principles And Practices Of Wastewater Treatment, Including The Operation Of Pumps, Motors, Valves, And Other Mechanical Equipment. Training In Wastewater Treatment Processes And Equipment, As Well As Knowledge Of Safety Procedures, Is Also Essential.
Analytical Skills: The Ability To Analyze And Interpret Data From Various Sources, Such As Lab Tests And Process Control Systems, To Make Informed Decisions And Adjustments To Treatment Processes. Strong Math And Computer Skills Are Also Necessary For Maintaining Accurate Records And Reports.
Physical And Mechanical Aptitude: The Role Of A Wrrf Operator Can Be Physically Demanding, Requiring The Ability To Lift And Carry Heavy Equipment And Work In All Types Of Weather Conditions. Mechanical Aptitude Is Also Important For Troubleshooting And Repairing Equipment.
Communication And Teamwork: Wrrf Operators Must Be Able To Clearly Communicate With Team Members, Supervisors, And Other Stakeholders To Ensure The Efficient Operation Of The Facility. They Must Also Work Well As Part Of A Team, Sharing Information And Supporting Their Colleagues To Achieve Common Goals.
