  1. Receive and respond to emergency calls from the public and accurately determine the nature and location of the emergency.
  2. Dispatch the appropriate emergency services, such as police, fire, or medical, in a timely and efficient manner.
  3. Remain calm and composed while handling high-pressure situations and effectively communicate with callers to gather necessary information.
  4. Monitor and coordinate all radio communications between emergency personnel and provide support as needed.
  5. Prioritize and triage emergency calls based on the level of urgency and available resources.
  6. Document all incoming calls and dispatch information accurately and in a timely manner.
  7. Utilize various computer systems and databases to gather and relay pertinent information to emergency personnel.
  8. Communicate with other agencies and jurisdictions to coordinate emergency response efforts.
  9. Maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  10. Demonstrate excellent multitasking abilities to handle multiple tasks, calls, and emergencies simultaneously.
  11. Make sound decisions and use good judgment to assess situations and dispatch appropriate resources.
  12. Stay updated on department protocols and procedures and adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.
  13. Provide support and assistance to police officers and other emergency personnel as needed.
  14. Participate in ongoing training and professional development to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
  15. Serve as a positive and professional representative of the City of Oakland and the police department.

Job Qualifications
  • Minimum Of Two Years Experience As A Police Communications Dispatcher In A Law Enforcement Agency.

  • Extensive Knowledge Of Dispatch Procedures, Emergency Protocols, And Public Safety Codes.

  • Proficiency In Operating Radio And Computer-Aided Dispatch (Cad) Systems.

  • Excellent Communication Skills, Both Written And Verbal, With The Ability To Remain Calm And Professional In High-Stress Situations.

  • Familiarity With The City Of Oakland And Surrounding Areas, Including Knowledge Of Local Streets, Landmarks, And Geography.
