As a Police Cadet, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our experienced police officers and gain valuable on-the-job training.   1. Assist in maintaining a safe and thriving community by supporting the efforts of the Oakland Police Department.
  2. Work closely with experienced police officers to gain valuable on-the-job training and experience.
  3. Demonstrate a strong passion for serving the community and a desire to pursue a career in law enforcement.
  4. Provide support to police officers in various tasks, such as patrolling, traffic control, and responding to calls for service.
  5. Maintain a professional and positive attitude while interacting with members of the community.
  6. Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public.
  7. Adhere to department policies, procedures, and guidelines at all times.
  8. Attend required trainings and meetings to continuously improve skills and knowledge.

  11. Maintain a high level of physical fitness in order to effectively perform job duties.

  14. Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure personal and public safety at all times.
  15. Continuously strive to uphold the values and mission of the Oakland Police Department.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Ged: A Police Cadet At The City Of Oakland Must Have At Least A High School Diploma Or Ged To Be Considered For The Position.

  • Physical Fitness: The Job Of A Police Cadet Requires Physical Fitness And Stamina. Candidates Must Be Able To Pass A Physical Fitness Test And Maintain Physical Fitness Throughout Their Employment.

  • Valid Driver's License: A Valid Driver's License Is Required For The Position Of Police Cadet. Candidates Must Have A Clean Driving Record And Be Able To Operate A Motor Vehicle.

  • Background Check: The City Of Oakland Requires All Police Cadet Candidates To Undergo A Thorough Background Check, Including Criminal History, Employment History, And Credit Check.

  • Strong Communication Skills: As A Police Cadet, Candidates Will Be Expected To Interact With The Public And Other Law Enforcement Agencies. Strong Communication Skills, Both Written And Verbal, Are Essential For This Position.
