
Deputy City Attorney

As a Deputy City Attorney, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of legal matters, from providing advice and counsel to representing the city in litigation. - Provide legal advice and counsel to various city departments and officials on a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to contracts, ordinances, regulations, employment issues, and litigation.
- Represent the city in various legal proceedings, including administrative hearings, arbitrations, and state and federal court cases.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support city's legal positions and decisions.
- Draft legal documents, including contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and pleadings.
- Collaborate with other city attorneys and outside counsel as needed to effectively represent the city's interests.
- Monitor and stay updated on changes in municipal law and provide recommendations for compliance with new laws and regulations.
- Work closely with city departments to identify and mitigate potential legal risks.
- Conduct negotiations on behalf of the city in legal matters.
- Assist in the development and implementation of city policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Train and educate city employees on legal matters and best practices.
- Maintain accurate and organized legal files and records.
- Serve as a liaison between the city and external stakeholders, such as community groups, other government agencies, and legal organizations.
- Attend and participate in city council meetings and other public forums as needed.
- Uphold the values and mission of the city of Oakland and promote a safe, equitable, and thriving community for all residents.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the City Attorney.
Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree From An Accredited Law School.
Active Membership In The State Bar Of California.
Minimum Of 3 Years Experience Practicing Law, Preferably In Municipal Law Or Related Field.
Knowledge Of Local, State, And Federal Laws, Regulations, And Judicial Decisions.
Strong Written And Oral Communication Skills, Including The Ability To Effectively Argue Legal Positions And Negotiate On Behalf Of The City.
