- Develop and implement policies and procedures for special investigations and training programs within the Oakland Police Department.
- Lead and direct a team of investigators and trainers to ensure effective and efficient operations.
- Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into complaints and allegations of misconduct within the department.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including community groups and other law enforcement agencies, to promote transparency and build public trust.
- Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in law enforcement to inform and improve investigation and training processes.
- Monitor and evaluate the department's compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Provide guidance and training to department personnel on ethical and professional standards, use of force, and other relevant topics.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community members and organizations to foster a positive and collaborative working relationship.
- Prepare accurate and timely reports on investigations, training programs, and other relevant activities for department leadership and other stakeholders.
- Serve as a representative for the department and the CPRA in various meetings, forums, and events related to law enforcement and community relations.
- Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of all investigations and training materials.
- Continuously assess and improve the effectiveness of special investigations and training programs to promote accountability and excellence within the department.
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.
- Uphold the values and mission of the City of Oakland and the CPRA in all interactions and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the City Manager or other appropriate authorities.
Minimum Of 10 Years Of Experience In Law Enforcement, With At Least 5 Years In A Supervisory Or Leadership Role.
Extensive Knowledge Of California Public Records Act (Cpra) And Related Laws And Regulations.
Proven Track Record Of Successfully Conducting Complex And High-Profile Investigations In A Timely And Thorough Manner.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Train And Mentor Staff.
Bachelor's Degree In Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Or A Related Field, With A Master's Degree Preferred.
