Job Description

Welcome to the City of Los Alamitos! We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor to join our team. As a Senior Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community members at our various aquatic facilities. We are looking for a passionate and skilled individual who has a strong understanding of water safety protocols and techniques, as well as the ability to lead and train a team of lifeguards.   1. Ensure the safety and well-being of community members at all times while on duty at aquatic facilities.
  2. Lead and train a team of lifeguards, ensuring they are properly prepared and equipped to handle any emergency situations.
  3. Monitor and maintain a safe and clean environment at all times, including regularly checking and maintaining pool chemicals and equipment.
  4. Provide exceptional customer service by welcoming and assisting patrons, answering questions, and addressing any concerns or complaints.
  5. Conduct water safety classes and trainings for community members of all ages, including children and adults.
  6. Enforce all safety and facility rules and regulations to prevent accidents and maintain a safe environment.
  7. Act as a first responder in emergency situations, providing aid and coordinating with emergency personnel as needed.
  8. Create and maintain records of all incidents, accidents, and emergency responses.
  9. Attend regular staff meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on safety protocols and procedures.
  10. Collaborate with other staff members and departments to ensure smooth operation of aquatic facilities and events.
  11. Conduct regular maintenance checks and report any necessary repairs or maintenance needs to appropriate personnel.
  12. Stay current on all certifications and trainings required for the position, including CPR and lifeguard certification.
  13. Uphold and promote the mission and values of the City of Los Alamitos at all times.
  14. Assist with other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.

Job Qualifications
  • Lifeguard Certification: A Senior Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor At The City Of Los Alamitos Must Possess A Valid Lifeguard Certification From A Recognized Organization Such As The American Red Cross Or The Ymca. This Ensures That The Individual Has The Necessary Skills And Knowledge To Effectively Prevent And Respond To Aquatic Emergencies.

  • Water Safety Instructor Certification: In Addition To Lifeguard Certification, The Candidate Should Also Have A Water Safety Instructor (Wsi) Certification. This Certification Demonstrates The Individual's Ability To Teach Swimming And Water Safety Skills To Individuals Of All Ages And Abilities.

  • Minimum Experience: The City Of Los Alamitos Requires A Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience As A Lifeguard And/Or Water Safety Instructor For The Senior Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor Position. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Strong Understanding Of Lifeguarding And Teaching Techniques, As Well As The Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced And Dynamic Environment.

  • Cpr And First Aid Certification: Along With Lifeguard And Wsi Certifications, The Candidate Should Also Possess A Valid Cpr And First Aid Certification. This Is Essential For Providing Immediate Care In Case Of A Medical Emergency.

  • Strong Communication Skills: As A Senior Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor, The Individual Will Be Responsible For Teaching And Supervising Other Lifeguards And Water Safety Instructors. Therefore, Strong Communication Skills Are Necessary To Effectively Convey Instructions And Maintain A Safe And Organized Environment. Additionally, The Candidate Should Also Possess Excellent Customer Service Skills To Interact With The Public And Address Any Concerns Or Inquiries.
