The City of Jersey City is seeking a Senior Planner to join our dynamic team and help shape the future of our community. As a key member of our planning department, you will have the opportunity to lead and collaborate on a wide range of projects that impact the daily lives of our residents.   1. Develop and implement comprehensive plans and policies that align with the city's goals and objectives.
  2. Conduct research and analysis on various land use and development issues to inform decision making.
  3. Collaborate with other departments, community stakeholders, and elected officials to gather input and ensure plans are inclusive and representative of community needs.
  4. Lead and manage planning projects from initiation to completion, including overseeing staff and consultants.
  5. Review and make recommendations on development proposals to ensure compliance with zoning and land use regulations.
  6. Provide technical expertise and guidance on planning and zoning matters to city officials, developers, and the public.
  7. Stay current on emerging trends and best practices in urban planning, and make recommendations for their implementation in the city.
  8. Prepare and present reports, presentations, and other materials to communicate planning initiatives and progress to various audiences.
  9. Collaborate with the city's sustainability efforts to promote environmentally responsible development and design.
  10. Assist in the preparation and management of the department's budget and resources.
  11. Mentor and train junior planners and interns.
  12. Foster positive relationships with community groups, developers, and other stakeholders to promote the city's planning initiatives.
  13. Represent the city at public meetings, conferences, and other events related to planning and development.
  14. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies related to planning and development.
  15. Continuously evaluate and improve planning processes and procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Urban Planning, Public Administration, Or Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Urban Planning, Land Use, And Zoning Regulations.

  • Knowledge Of Local, State, And Federal Laws And Regulations Related To Urban Planning And Development.

  • Strong Project Management Skills, Ability To Lead And Coordinate Multiple Projects Simultaneously.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With Various Stakeholders And Community Groups.
