In this role, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of our children as they travel to and from school.   1. Ensure the safety of children traveling to and from school by effectively managing traffic flow.
  2. Maintain a consistent and visible presence at designated school crossings.
  3. Direct and guide students and pedestrians across the street in a safe and timely manner.
  4. Communicate effectively with drivers and pedestrians to ensure compliance with traffic laws and regulations.
  5. Report any observed safety concerns or violations to appropriate authorities.
  6. Attend training sessions and stay updated on traffic safety protocols and procedures.
  7. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times, serving as a positive role model for children.
  8. Collaborate with school staff and law enforcement to ensure a safe and orderly flow of traffic.
  9. Assist in emergency situations, such as accidents or inclement weather, to ensure the safety of students.
  10. Adhere to all city and department policies and procedures.
  11. Maintain accurate records and logs of daily activities.
  12. Serve as a positive representative of the City of Jersey City and the school district.
  13. Demonstrate a strong commitment to the community and a genuine passion for keeping children safe.
  14. Attend regular meetings and participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: This Position Requires A Minimum Of A High School Education To Ensure Basic Knowledge And Skills In Areas Such As Communication, Safety, And Traffic Regulations.

  • Valid Driver's License And Clean Driving Record: A School Traffic Guard Must Be Able To Operate A Vehicle And Have A Clean Driving Record To Ensure The Safety Of Themselves And Others While On Duty.

  • Good Communication Skills: As A School Traffic Guard, It Is Important To Communicate Effectively With Students, Parents, And Fellow Staff Members To Ensure A Safe And Efficient Flow Of Traffic.

  • Physical Fitness And Ability: This Job Requires Standing For Long Periods Of Time, Directing Traffic, And Occasionally Assisting Students With Crossing The Street. A School Traffic Guard Must Be Physically Fit And Able To Perform These Tasks.

  • Good Judgment And Decision-Making Skills: Being Able To Make Quick And Sound Decisions In Potentially Hazardous Situations Is Crucial For A School Traffic Guard. This Includes The Ability To Assess Traffic Conditions, Prioritize Tasks, And Handle Emergencies Effectively.
