The City of Jersey City is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Lead Inspector for our Housing Preservation department.As a Lead Inspector, you will play a crucial role in promoting and maintaining the health and safety of our residents by conducting thorough inspections of residential properties and enforcing housing codes and regulations. Your attention to detail and strong communication skills will be essential in addressing any potential violations and working with property owners to bring their properties up to standard.We are looking for a candidate with a minimum of 3 years of experience in housing inspections and a thorough understanding of local, state, and federal housing codes and regulations.   1. Conduct thorough inspections of residential properties to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal housing codes and regulations.
  2. Enforce housing codes and regulations by issuing notices and citations, conducting follow-up inspections, and taking appropriate legal action when necessary.
  3. Communicate effectively with property owners, tenants, and other stakeholders to address any potential housing violations and ensure compliance.
  4. Train and supervise a team of inspectors to ensure consistency and accuracy in inspections and enforcement activities.
  5. Conduct research and stay updated on changes to housing codes and regulations to ensure compliance with current standards.
  6. Collaborate with other departments and agencies to address complex housing issues and promote safe and livable housing for all members of the community.
  7. Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on inspection findings and enforcement actions.
  8. Provide guidance and support to property owners on how to bring their properties up to standard and maintain compliance.
  9. Attend meetings and events to represent the Housing Preservation department and promote its mission and initiatives.
  10. Participate in the development and implementation of new housing policies and procedures.
  11. Assist in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of new inspectors.
  12. Handle escalated complaints and concerns from residents and stakeholders.
  13. Adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  14. Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and stay updated on industry best practices.
  15. Uphold the values and goals of the City of Jersey City and the Housing Preservation department in all aspects of work.

Job Qualifications
  • Relevant Education And Training: A Lead Inspector - Housing Preservation At The City Of Jersey City Should Hold A Degree In A Related Field Such As Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Or Architecture. Additionally, They Should Have Specialized Training In Lead Inspection And Abatement Techniques.

  • Certification And Licensure: The Ideal Candidate For This Role Should Possess A Valid Lead Inspector And Risk Assessor Certification From The Environmental Protection Agency (Epa). They Should Also Hold A Valid License From The New Jersey Department Of Labor And Workforce Development As A Certified Lead Inspector Or Lead Risk Assessor.

  • Experience In Lead Inspection And Abatement: The Lead Inspector Should Have At Least 3-5 Years Of Experience Conducting Lead Inspections And Managing Lead Abatement Projects In Residential Properties. They Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Lead-Based Paint Regulations And Procedures.

  • Knowledge Of Housing Preservation Standards: The Lead Inspector Should Possess A Strong Understanding Of The City Of Jersey City's Housing Preservation Standards And Guidelines. They Should Also Be Familiar With Federal And State Regulations Related To Lead-Based Paint And Other Hazardous Materials.

  • Strong Communication And Organizational Skills: As A Lead Inspector, This Individual Will Be Responsible For Conducting Inspections, Coordinating With Property Owners And Contractors, And Maintaining Accurate Records. Therefore, Excellent Communication, Organization, And Documentation Skills Are Essential For This Role.
