Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and driven Construction Code Intern to join our team and assist in ensuring that all construction projects within our city meet the required codes and regulations. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the development and growth of our city.   1. Conduct regular inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  2. Review and analyze construction plans and documents to ensure they meet city codes and standards.
  3. Collaborate with other city departments and external agencies to coordinate and approve construction projects.
  4. Provide technical assistance and guidance to contractors, developers, and residents regarding building codes and regulations.
  5. Maintain accurate records and documentation of all construction activities and inspections.
  6. Assist in the development and implementation of new construction codes and regulations.
  7. Attend city council meetings and present reports on construction projects and compliance.
  8. Conduct research and stay updated on changes in construction codes and regulations.
  9. Assist in resolving any code violations and issuing appropriate notices and citations.
  10. Collaborate with other interns and city employees to complete projects and tasks.
  11. Participate in training and professional development opportunities related to construction codes and regulations.
  12. Maintain a positive and professional relationship with contractors, developers, and residents.
  13. Promote and uphold the city's commitment to building a stronger and more vibrant community.
  14. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while performing job duties.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Construction Codes: A Construction Code Intern At City Of Jersey City Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Construction Codes, Including Building, Plumbing, Electrical, And Mechanical Codes. This Knowledge Will Be Essential In Reviewing And Approving Construction Plans And Permits.

  • Education In Construction Or Related Field: The Ideal Candidate For This Position Should Possess A Degree Or Coursework In Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Or A Related Field. This Educational Background Will Provide The Necessary Foundation For Understanding And Enforcing Construction Codes.

  • Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills: As A Construction Code Intern, You Will Be Responsible For Reviewing Construction Plans And Identifying Any Potential Code Violations. The Ability To Analyze And Solve Complex Problems Is Crucial In This Role To Ensure That All Projects Comply With Applicable Codes And Regulations.

  • Attention To Detail: Construction Codes Are Complex And Often Require Strict Adherence To Specific Requirements. A Successful Construction Code Intern Should Have A Keen Eye For Detail And The Ability To Spot Potential Issues Or Discrepancies In Construction Plans.

  • Communication Skills: This Position Will Require Frequent Communication With Contractors, Architects, And Other City Officials. Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills Are Essential To Effectively Communicate Construction Code Requirements, Address Any Concerns, And Ensure Compliance With Regulations.
