Job Description

Are you passionate about basketball and making a positive impact on young athletes? The City of Fountain Valley is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Coach for our Youth Basketball program. As a volunteer coach, you will have the opportunity to inspire and develop the skills of youth players while fostering a love for the game. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who possess strong leadership skills and a desire to mentor and motivate young athletes. If you have a passion for basketball and a desire to give back to the community, we want you on our team!

Lead and oversee the development and implementation of the Youth Basketball program for the City of Fountain Valley.
Create a positive and inclusive environment for youth players to learn and develop their basketball skills.
Serve as a role model and mentor for young athletes, promoting good sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline.
Develop and implement effective practice plans that focus on skill development, game strategy, and player improvement.
Communicate effectively with players, parents, and other coaches to ensure a positive and organized program.
Attend and actively participate in all scheduled practices, games, and team meetings.
Provide guidance and feedback to players to help them improve their skills and reach their full potential.
Uphold the values and goals of the City of Fountain Valley's Youth Basketball program.
Maintain a safe and positive environment for all players, following all safety protocols and procedures.
Continuously seek opportunities for personal and professional development as a volunteer coach.
Work collaboratively with other coaches and staff to ensure the success of the program.
Adhere to all rules, regulations, and guidelines set by the City of Fountain Valley for volunteer coaches.
Act as an ambassador for the program and the City of Fountain Valley, promoting the positive impact of youth sports on the community.
Maintain open and positive communication with the program coordinator and other city officials.
Display a passion for basketball and a desire to make a positive impact on young athletes.

Job Qualifications

Prior Experience Coaching Youth Basketball: A Volunteer Coach For Youth Basketball At City Of Fountain Valley Should Have Previous Experience Coaching Children In The Sport. This Could Include Coaching For A School Team, Community League, Or Summer Camp.
Knowledge Of Basketball Rules And Techniques: It Is Important For A Volunteer Coach To Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Rules And Techniques Of Basketball. This Includes Knowledge Of Plays, Positions, And Strategies That Are Appropriate For Youth Players.
Communication And Leadership Skills: As A Volunteer Coach, It Is Essential To Have Strong Communication Skills In Order To Effectively Teach And Motivate Young Players. Additionally, Leadership Skills Are Important For Managing A Team And Fostering A Positive And Inclusive Environment.
Ability To Pass A Background Check: In Order To Ensure The Safety And Well-Being Of The Children Participating In The Basketball Program, The City Of Fountain Valley May Require Volunteer Coaches To Undergo A Background Check.
Availability For Practices And Games: The Volunteer Coach Should Be Able To Commit To Attending All Practices And Games As Scheduled By The City Of Fountain Valley. This Includes Being Punctual And Reliable, As Well As Having The Flexibility To Potentially Adjust Practice Times Based On The Availability Of Players.
