- Receive and respond to emergency calls from the community in a timely and efficient manner.
- Evaluate and prioritize emergency situations to determine the appropriate level of response.
- Provide life-saving instructions to callers in emergency situations.
- Dispatch emergency responders, such as police, fire, and medical personnel, to the location of the emergency.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all emergency calls and dispatch activities.
- Monitor emergency response units and provide updates to responding personnel as needed.
- Communicate effectively with emergency responders, callers, and other agencies involved in emergency situations.
- Remain calm and composed during high-stress situations and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Follow established protocols and procedures for handling emergency calls and dispatching emergency personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy of sensitive information obtained through emergency calls.
- Collaborate with other telecommunicators and emergency services personnel to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to emergencies.
- Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current with emergency communication techniques and procedures.
- Demonstrate empathy and compassion towards callers in distress and provide reassurance and support.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols while performing job duties.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
High School Diploma Or Ged: A Basic Educational Qualification Is Important For A Telecommunicator Job, As It Demonstrates The Ability To Comprehend And Follow Instructions, Communicate Effectively, And Perform Basic Mathematical Calculations.
Previous Experience: Previous Experience In A Similar Role, Such As A Dispatcher Or Call Center Operator, Is Preferred For A Telecommunicator Job. This Shows Familiarity With The Job Duties And The Ability To Handle Emergency Situations.
Excellent Communication Skills: Telecommunicators Must Have Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills To Effectively Gather And Relay Information To Emergency Responders And Callers, As Well As Maintain Clear And Concise Records.
Multi-Tasking And Problem-Solving Abilities: The Ability To Handle Multiple Tasks Simultaneously And Think Quickly In High-Pressure Situations Is Essential For A Telecommunicator. They Must Be Able To Prioritize Calls, Gather Accurate Information, And Make Critical Decisions In A Fast-Paced Environment.
Cpr And First Aid Certification: As A First Point Of Contact During Emergency Situations, Telecommunicators Should Have Current Cpr And First Aid Certifications. This Ensures They Are Equipped To Provide Initial Assistance And Instructions To Callers Until Emergency Responders Arrive On The Scene.
