- Conduct inspections of residential buildings to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Document and report any violations or discrepancies found during inspections.
- Communicate and work closely with contractors, homeowners, and other stakeholders to resolve any issues or concerns.
- Keep up-to-date with current building codes and regulations and apply them during inspections.
- Review building plans and blueprints to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of inspection reports and other relevant documentation.
- Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure that any violations have been corrected.
- Provide guidance and assistance to residents and contractors regarding building code requirements.
- Collaborate with other city departments and agencies to address building-related issues and concerns.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Monitor and track building permits and ensure proper documentation and approvals are obtained.
- Conduct research and review new building materials, techniques, and technologies to ensure compliance with codes.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while interacting with the public.
- Uphold the values and mission of the City of Columbia in all job duties and responsibilities.
Minimum Of 3 Years Experience In Residential Building Inspection Or Related Field.
Knowledge Of Local, State, And Federal Building Codes And Regulations.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills For Interacting With Contractors, Homeowners, And Other City Officials.
Ability To Read And Interpret Blueprints And Construction Plans.
Certification As A Residential Building Inspector From A Recognized Organization, Such As The International Code Council (Icc).
