If so, the City of Columbia-SC has the perfect opportunity for you as our new Evidence and Property Technician.As an Evidence and Property Technician, you will play a crucial role in the proper storage, tracking, and disposal of all evidence and property collected by the Columbia Police Department. Your impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail will ensure the integrity of our evidence and property management system.To be successful in this role, you must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent and have at least two years of experience in evidence handling and record keeping.   1. Properly receive, store, and track all evidence and property collected by the Columbia Police Department.
  2. Maintain accurate and organized records of all evidence and property transactions.
  3. Follow proper evidence handling procedures to ensure the integrity and chain of custody of all items.
  4. Conduct regular audits of evidence and property storage areas to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures.
  5. Assist with the disposal of evidence and property in accordance with state and local laws.
  6. Collaborate with law enforcement officers and other staff to gather and provide information related to evidence and property.
  7. Utilize computer systems and databases to accurately document and track evidence and property.
  8. Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information related to evidence and property.
  9. Prepare evidence and property for court proceedings as needed.
  10. Train and educate new staff members on evidence and property handling procedures.
  11. Communicate effectively with department personnel, outside agencies, and the general public regarding evidence and property related matters.
  12. Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to evidence and property management.
  13. Keep up to date with changes in laws and regulations related to evidence and property handling.
  14. Participate in department meetings and trainings as required.
  15. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
