Job Description

The City of Austin's Parks & Rec Department is seeking multiple Temporary Professional Instructors (Level I-II) to join our team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to share your expertise and skills with the community by leading various classes and workshops. We are looking for dynamic individuals with a strong background in their field and a desire to make a positive impact through education.   1. Develop and lead engaging and informative classes and workshops for the community.
  2. Prepare lesson plans and materials that align with the department's curriculum and goals.
  3. Create a safe and inclusive learning environment for all participants.
  4. Utilize effective teaching methods to ensure understanding and retention of material.
  5. Provide constructive feedback and guidance to participants to help them improve their skills.
  6. Stay updated on current industry trends and incorporate them into class content.
  7. Collaborate with other instructors and department staff to ensure a cohesive and effective program.
  8. Communicate with participants and their families regarding class schedules, updates, and any concerns.
  9. Maintain accurate records of attendance, evaluations, and other necessary documentation.
  10. Adhere to all department policies and procedures, including safety protocols.
  11. Represent the department in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  12. Attend required trainings and meetings to enhance teaching skills and stay up-to-date on department initiatives.
  13. Act as a positive role model for participants and promote the department's mission and values.
  14. Assist with promotional efforts to increase participation and awareness of the program.
  15. Continuously seek feedback and strive for personal and professional growth in the role.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Relevant Field: The Job Requires A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In A Relevant Field Such As Education, Recreation, Or Sports Management. This Ensures That The Instructor Has A Strong Foundation In The Subject Matter And Is Qualified To Teach.

  • Teaching Or Coaching Experience: Previous Experience In Teaching Or Coaching Is Essential For This Job. It Demonstrates The Ability To Effectively Communicate And Engage With Students Of Various Ages And Skill Levels.

  • Knowledge Of Instructional Techniques: The Instructor Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Various Teaching Methods And Techniques To Effectively Deliver Lessons And Engage Students. This Could Include Experience With Hands-On Learning, Group Activities, And Individual Instruction.

  • Cpr And First Aid Certification: As The Instructor Will Be Working With Children And Potentially Leading Physically Demanding Activities, Cpr And First Aid Certification Is A Must. This Ensures The Safety And Well-Being Of All Participants In The Program.

  • Availability For Flexible Scheduling: The Job May Require Working Evenings And Weekends, So The Instructor Must Have A Flexible Schedule To Accommodate The Needs Of The Program. This Includes Being Able To Commit To A Set Schedule For The Duration Of The Program.
