Job Description

As a Physician at the Public Safety Wellness Center for the City of Austin, you will play a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of our dedicated public safety professionals.   1. Provide high-quality medical care to public safety professionals, including police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians.
  2. Conduct thorough medical examinations and assessments to determine the physical and mental health needs of public safety personnel.
  3. Develop and implement personalized treatment plans for individual patients, taking into consideration their unique job requirements and health concerns.
  4. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and agencies to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for patients.
  5. Educate and counsel patients on preventive care, healthy lifestyle choices, and occupational health and safety practices.
  6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and test results.
  7. Stay informed about the latest medical and mental health research and treatments, particularly in relation to public safety professionals.
  8. Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills.
  9. Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in the provision of medical care.
  10. Foster a supportive and respectful environment for patients and colleagues, promoting teamwork and open communication.
  11. Participate in the development and implementation of wellness programs and initiatives for public safety professionals.
  12. Serve as a resource and advocate for the physical and mental well-being of public safety personnel within the organization and the community.
  13. Serve as a medical consultant to other departments and agencies on matters related to public safety personnel health and wellness.
  14. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or department head.

Job Qualifications
  • Valid Medical License: The Candidate Must Possess A Valid Medical License In The State Of Texas, Allowing Them To Practice Medicine And Prescribe Medications.

  • Board Certification: The Candidate Should Be Board Certified In A Relevant Specialty Such As Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Or Emergency Medicine.

  • Experience In Public Safety: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Experience Working With Public Safety Personnel, Such As Firefighters, Police Officers, And Ems Personnel. This Experience Should Include Treating Work-Related Injuries And Addressing The Unique Health Needs Of This Population.

  • Knowledge Of Mental Health: As A Public Safety Wellness Center Physician, The Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Mental Health And Be Able To Provide Counseling And Support To First Responders Dealing With Traumatic Events And High Levels Of Stress.

  • Cpr And Acls Certification: The Candidate Should Be Certified In Cpr And Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (Acls), In Order To Respond To Medical Emergencies And Provide Life-Saving Care When Needed.
