Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented individual to join our team and help us effectively communicate with the public.   1. Develop and implement strategic communication plans to effectively disseminate important information to the public.
  2. Create engaging and informative content for various communication channels such as social media, websites, press releases, and newsletters.
  3. Serve as a liaison between the city and the public, responding to inquiries and providing accurate and timely information.
  4. Monitor and analyze public perception and sentiment to inform communication strategies.
  5. Collaborate with various departments to ensure consistency and accuracy of messaging.
  6. Plan and coordinate public events and outreach initiatives to promote community involvement and engagement.
  7. Maintain relationships with media outlets and facilitate media coverage of city events and initiatives.
  8. Conduct research and gather data to support communication efforts and inform decision making.
  9. Train and advise city staff on effective communication techniques and strategies.
  10. Stay up-to-date on relevant city policies, initiatives, and events to accurately represent the city in all communications.
  11. Monitor and manage the city's online presence, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available to the public.
  12. Assist in crisis communication planning and execution.
  13. Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders to promote city initiatives and events.
  14. Attend city meetings and events to gather information and provide updates to the public.
  15. Maintain accurate records and reports of communication efforts and effectiveness.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience In A Public Information Or Media Relations Role.

  • Proficient In Writing, Editing, And Producing Various Types Of Communication Materials, Including Press Releases, Social Media Posts, And Website Content.

  • Knowledge Of Public Information Laws And Regulations, Such As The Texas Public Information Act, And Ability To Ensure Compliance With These Laws.

  • Excellent Interpersonal And Public Speaking Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Communicate With Diverse Audiences And Represent The City Of Austin In A Professional Manner.
