
Property Crime Technician

As a Property Crime Technician, you will play a crucial role in investigating and solving property crimes, ensuring justice for victims and promoting a sense of security for our community. - Conduct thorough investigations of reported property crimes, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing data to determine potential suspects.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, including police officers and detectives, to assist in the identification and apprehension of suspects involved in property crimes.
- Utilize various databases and software programs to track and analyze crime patterns and trends, and make recommendations for preventative measures.
- Prepare and maintain detailed and accurate reports of all investigations, including documenting evidence and witness statements.
- Testify in court as an expert witness, presenting evidence and providing technical support to prosecutors in property crime cases.
- Coordinate with victims of property crimes to provide support and assistance throughout the investigation and legal process.
- Conduct property surveys and assessments to identify potential security vulnerabilities and make recommendations for improvements.
- Stay up-to-date on current laws, regulations, and procedures related to property crimes and attend training and professional development opportunities as required.
- Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all case information and evidence in accordance with department policies and procedures.
- Promote community involvement and awareness in preventing property crimes through outreach programs and educational initiatives.
- Participate in multi-agency task forces and committees to share information and collaborate on strategies to address property crimes in the community.
- Serve as a liaison between the community and law enforcement, responding to inquiries and providing information on crime prevention and safety measures.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude and demeanor when interacting with victims, witnesses, and members of the community.
- Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, as well as all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by superiors to support the overall goals and mission of the City of Austin.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Property Crime Technician Job At City Of Austin Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent.
Knowledge Of Property Crime Laws And Procedures: The Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Property Crime Laws And Procedures, Including Evidence Collection And Preservation.
Experience In Evidence Handling And Processing: Previous Experience In Handling And Processing Evidence, Preferably In A Law Enforcement Setting, Is Highly Desirable.
Proficiency In Computer Software And Databases: The Candidate Should Be Proficient In Using Computer Software And Databases To Document And Track Evidence And Case Information.
Strong Attention To Detail And Organizational Skills: Property Crime Technicians Are Responsible For Organizing And Maintaining Evidence And Case Files, Therefore, Strong Attention To Detail And Organizational Skills Are Essential Qualifications For This Role.
