  1. Develop and implement long-term strategic plans for the city of Austin, taking into account factors such as population growth, economic development, and sustainability goals.
  2. Conduct research and analysis to support policy development and decision-making processes.
  3. Collaborate with other city departments, community organizations, and stakeholders to gather input and feedback on planning initiatives.
  4. Stay up-to-date on local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to planning and development.
  5. Prepare and present reports, presentations, and recommendations to city officials and community groups.
  6. Provide guidance and support to junior planners and interns.
  7. Use GIS and other mapping tools to visualize and analyze data related to land use, transportation, and infrastructure.
  8. Facilitate public engagement and participation in planning processes, including organizing community meetings and workshops.
  9. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of planning policies and make recommendations for improvements.
  10. Develop and manage budgets for planning projects and initiatives.
  11. Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in urban planning and apply them to the city of Austin's planning efforts.
  12. Communicate complex planning concepts and policies to a variety of audiences, including city officials, residents, and developers.
  13. Foster positive relationships with city officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders to promote collaboration and cooperation in the planning process.
  14. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in all planning activities.
  15. Continuously evaluate and improve planning processes and procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Urban Planning, Architecture, Public Policy, Or A Related Field

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Of Professional Experience In Urban Planning, Preferably In A Municipal Or Government Setting

  • Strong Knowledge Of Local, State, And Federal Planning And Zoning Laws, Regulations, And Procedures

  • Experience Managing Complex Projects And Leading Interdisciplinary Teams

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Engage With Diverse Stakeholders And Present Complex Information To Decision-Makers
