  1. Provide legal counsel and representation to the City of Austin on a variety of complex and diverse legal matters.
  2. Conduct thorough research and analysis of laws, regulations, and legal precedents to support city operations and decision-making processes.
  3. Prepare and review legal documents, contracts, and agreements to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  4. Represent the city in court proceedings, including trials, hearings, and appeals.
  5. Advise city officials and departments on legal issues and potential risks.
  6. Collaborate with other attorneys and staff within the City Attorney's Office to develop legal strategies and provide guidance on legal matters.
  7. Stay up-to-date on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the city and provide recommendations for adjusting policies and procedures accordingly.
  8. Serve as a liaison between the city and outside legal counsel when necessary.
  9. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  10. Demonstrate a strong commitment to upholding the law and promoting ethical practices within the city.
  11. Act as a representative of the city in public events and meetings as needed.
  12. Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and stay informed about current legal trends and best practices.
  13. Collaborate with other city departments and community stakeholders to find innovative solutions to legal issues and promote positive change in the community.
  14. Support the City of Austin's mission and values in all aspects of the job.

Job Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree From An Accredited Law School

  • Active Membership In Good Standing With The State Bar Of Texas

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Experience Practicing Municipal Law, With A Focus On Land Use And Zoning

  • Knowledge And Understanding Of Local, State, And Federal Laws And Regulations Applicable To Municipal Government

  • Strong Oral And Written Communication Skills, Including Experience Drafting Legal Documents And Presenting Arguments In Court Or Administrative Hearings.
