As a Patient Companion, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and companionship to our patients during their hospital stay. - Provide emotional support and companionship to patients during their hospital stay.
- Create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for patients and their families.
- Maintain a positive and empathetic attitude towards patients, their families, and healthcare staff.
- Act as a liaison between patients and healthcare staff, addressing any concerns or needs.
- Assist with daily tasks such as meal delivery, transporting patients, and running errands.
- Monitor and report any changes in patients' physical or emotional well-being to healthcare staff.
- Engage in conversation and activities with patients to improve their overall experience.
- Respect and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Follow all hospital policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
- Attend training and educational programs to enhance patient care skills and knowledge.
- Display a strong commitment to providing compassionate care to patients.
- Collaborate with other healthcare team members to ensure effective patient care.
- Maintain accurate records of patient interactions and activities performed.
- Assist with discharge planning and ensure patients have necessary resources upon leaving the hospital.
- Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines to prevent the spread of illnesses.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Education Level Of A High School Diploma Or Ged Is Required For A Patient Companion Position At Chi St. Alexius Health.
Cpr And First Aid Certification: Candidates Must Be Certified In Cpr And First Aid, As They May Be Required To Assist Patients In Emergency Situations.
Previous Experience In A Healthcare Setting: Previous Experience Working In A Healthcare Setting, Such As A Hospital Or Clinic, Is Preferred For A Patient Companion Position At Chi St. Alexius Health.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Patient Companions Must Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Interact With Patients, Families, And Medical Staff.
Ability To Handle Stressful Situations: Working In A Healthcare Setting Can Be Stressful, And Patient Companions Must Be Able To Remain Calm And Composed In Potentially Chaotic Situations.

The CHI St. Alexius Health regional healthcare system was formed in April 2016, when several Catholic Health Initiative healthcare facilities joined together to form the largest healthcare delivery system in central and western North Dakota. The system is comprised of a tertiary hospital in Bismarck, and critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, and Williston and numerous clinics and outpatient services. CHI St. Alexius Health also manages five CAHs in North Dakota which are located in the communities of Ashley, Elgin, Linton, and Wishek, as well as Mobridge Regional Hospital & Clinics in Mobridge, SD.
