  1. Lead the Site Reliability Engineering team at CarMax and oversee the day-to-day operations of the team.
  2. Mentor and develop a team of engineers to ensure a high level of technical expertise and support for the website and applications.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize areas for improvement in terms of reliability and scalability.
  4. Create and implement processes and procedures to prevent and mitigate potential system failures.
  5. Monitor and analyze system performance to identify and address any issues or bottlenecks.
  6. Develop and maintain documentation on system architecture and processes for future reference.
  7. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in Site Reliability Engineering.
  8. Manage and track team performance and provide regular feedback to team members.
  9. Work closely with other technology leaders to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.
  10. Lead incident response and resolution efforts, ensuring timely and effective solutions.
  11. Collaborate with product and development teams to ensure new features and updates are designed with reliability and scalability in mind.
  12. Communicate with senior leadership on the status of system reliability and any potential risks or concerns.
  13. Foster a culture of continuous learning and growth within the Site Reliability Engineering team.
  14. Continuously evaluate and implement new tools and technologies to improve system reliability and efficiency.
  15. Take ownership of critical incidents and lead post-incident reviews to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.

Job Qualifications

  • Extensive Technical Background: A Senior Manager Site Reliability Engineering At Carmax Must Have A Strong Technical Foundation, With Experience In Software Development, Systems Administration, And/Or Network Engineering. They Should Be Able To Understand And Troubleshoot Complex Technical Issues Across Multiple Technology Stacks.

  • Leadership Experience: This Role Requires At Least 5 Years Of Experience In A Leadership Position, Managing And Mentoring A Team Of Engineers. The Ideal Candidate Will Have A Proven Track Record Of Successfully Leading Cross-Functional Teams And Driving Results.

  • Strong Communication Skills: As A Senior Manager, It Is Essential To Have Excellent Communication Skills To Effectively Collaborate With Other Teams, Present Technical Concepts To Non-Technical Stakeholders, And Provide Guidance And Feedback To Team Members.

  • Devops And Automation Expertise: Carmax Values A Strong Devops Culture, So The Ideal Candidate For This Role Must Have Experience Implementing And Maintaining Automated Processes, Tools, And Frameworks. They Should Be Well-Versed In Ci/Cd Pipelines, Infrastructure As Code, And Other Devops Best Practices.

  • Experience With Cloud Technologies: Carmax Is Transitioning To A Cloud-First Approach, So Experience With Public Cloud Platforms Such As Aws, Azure, Or Gcp Is Preferred. The Senior Manager Should Have A Deep Understanding Of Cloud Architecture, Security, And Cost Optimization Strategies.
