Education Required to Become a Business Intelligence Specialist
Business intelligence (BI) specialists require a good education to be successful. BI professionals need to have a good understanding of data structures, computer science, analytics, and mathematics. A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or business analytics is typically the minimum educational requirement for this job. However, some employers may require a master's degree in these fields.
In addition to educational requirements, many employers look for BI specialists who have experience in the field. This could include working with databases, data mining, data analysis, and programming. Having industry certifications such as Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) can also be beneficial.
For those who wish to take their career in BI to the next level, advanced studies such as an MBA or master's degree in business analytics can be very beneficial. Courses in data science, programming, and analytics can also help BI specialists gain the knowledge and experience needed to be successful.
BI specialists must also be able to effectively communicate their findings with both technical and non-technical audiences. They must be organized and have excellent problem-solving skills. In addition, they must be able to work with cross-functional teams to create data-driven solutions.
