Responsibilities of a Biomedical Equipment Technician
A Biomedical Equipment Technician is responsible for the maintenance, installation and repair of a variety of medical equipment. This equipment includes patient monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, endoscopy equipment, imaging systems, dialysis machines, and laboratory equipment.
Biomedical Equipment Technicians must have a thorough understanding of medical technology and be able to use various tools and test equipment to diagnose and repair malfunctioning equipment.
Biomedical Equipment Technicians are responsible for performing both preventive and corrective maintenance on medical equipment. This includes cleaning and calibrating equipment, identifying and resolving malfunctions, and updating software and firmware.
They must also be able to troubleshoot and repair a variety of complex medical systems and be able to properly document all service and repair activities.
Biomedical Equipment Technicians are also responsible for providing training to medical staff on the proper use of the equipment they have serviced and repaired.
They must be knowledgeable in the latest medical technology and able to explain the operation of the equipment to medical personnel.
In addition to their technical duties, Biomedical Equipment Technicians must adhere to industry safety standards and regulations.
They must also be able to work independently and be able to clearly communicate their findings and recommendations to other members of the medical team.
