At California Institute of Technology, we are seeking a highly experienced and driven Senior Director of Development, Biology and Biological Engineering to join our dynamic team.   1. Develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives to support the growth and success of the Institute's research programs in biology and biological engineering.
  2. Lead and manage a team of development professionals to cultivate relationships with donors, alumni, and other key stakeholders to secure major gifts and donations.
  3. Identify and cultivate relationships with potential donors to expand the Institute's funding base and secure major gifts for research programs.
  4. Work closely with faculty and researchers to understand their needs and priorities, and develop fundraising strategies to support their work.
  5. Create and implement comprehensive fundraising campaigns and initiatives to meet the Institute's annual and long-term fundraising goals.
  6. Collaborate with other departments and teams within the Institute to ensure alignment and coordination of fundraising efforts.
  7. Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the Institute's research programs and priorities to effectively communicate impact and value to potential donors.
  8. Monitor and report on progress towards fundraising goals, provide regular updates to senior leadership, and make recommendations for adjustments as needed.
  9. Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and new trends in fundraising and development, and apply this knowledge to enhance the Institute's fundraising efforts.
  10. Represent the Institute at external events and conferences, and serve as a key spokesperson for the organization's research programs and initiatives.
  11. Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions and communications with donors, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  12. Foster a culture of philanthropy within the Institute, promoting a donor-centric approach and encouraging all staff and faculty to participate in fundraising efforts.
  13. Act as a liaison between the Institute and its donors, providing excellent stewardship and building strong, long-lasting relationships.
  14. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior development staff and foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  15. Ensure compliance with all relevant fundraising regulations and ethical standards.

Job Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree In Biology, Biological Engineering, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 10 Years Experience In Development And Fundraising, Preferably In A Scientific Or Academic Setting.

  • Strong Knowledge Of The Current Landscape Of Biological Research And Innovation, As Well As Trends In Philanthropy And Fundraising Within The Field.

  • Proven Track Record Of Success In Securing Major Gifts And Cultivating Relationships With High-Level Donors.

  • Excellent Communication And Leadership Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Manage A Team And Collaborate With Other Departments Within The Institution.
