
Instrument Assembly Technician
Assist with cabling and testing of subassemblies. Monitor and record assembly measurements and configurations. Utilizing the LIGO inventory control system (ICS), manage the transport, storage, and processing of detector components. Provide shipping and receiving services for the site when required. Operate forklifts to unload trucks. Use LIGO’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to schedule, execute and record corrective and preventive maintenance work. Escalate any operational fault issues to Operations Specialist Lead using LIGO’s Fault Report System. Support the execution of LIGO’s Detector Improvements projects plan established by LIGO’s Chief Engineer. The work requires a high degree of coordination, communication, and scheduling and must be accomplished without causing chamber contamination. Maintain all general and job-specific safety certifications and carry out specific safety inspections. Report to site safety manager for all safety issues. Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, Laboratory policies, procedures and practices pertinent to this position.
3-5 years of experience developing, testing or operating scientific or other instrumentation
Ability to qualify for and maintain safety certification for working at heights
Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, technical specifications
Previous technical experience working in a cleanroom or high vacuum technology a plus
