We are currently seeking a highly motivated GIS Irrigation Mapping Intern to join our team and assist with mapping and analyzing irrigation systems on our campus.   1. Conduct GIS mapping and analysis of irrigation systems on the California Institute of Technology campus.
  2. Collaborate with team members to identify areas of improvement in irrigation practices and develop solutions.
  3. Utilize GIS technology to identify and map areas of potential water waste or inefficiency.
  4. Create accurate and detailed maps and reports for use by the campus irrigation team.
  5. Assist with data collection and entry to ensure up-to-date and accurate information.
  6. Conduct field work to gather data and verify accuracy of GIS maps.
  7. Work closely with campus irrigation team to understand their needs and provide support.
  8. Stay up-to-date on latest GIS technology and techniques to continuously improve mapping and analysis processes.
  9. Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while conducting field work.
  10. Communicate findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  11. Maintain organized records and documentation of all GIS mapping and analysis work.
  12. Support other environmental sustainability initiatives as needed.
  13. Attend team meetings and contribute ideas for improving irrigation practices.
  14. Learn and adhere to all applicable laws and regulations related to water management and conservation.
  15. Represent the California Institute of Technology in a professional and positive manner at all times.

Job Qualifications
  • Proficiency In Gis Software: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Gis Software, Such As Arcgis Or Qgis, And Be Able To Create And Manipulate Maps, Perform Spatial Analyses, And Manage Large Datasets.

  • Knowledge Of Irrigation Systems: A Basic Understanding Of Irrigation Systems And Their Components Is Essential For This Role. This Includes Knowledge Of Different Types Of Irrigation Methods, Water Sources, And Irrigation Scheduling.

  • Familiarity With Remote Sensing Techniques: The Intern Should Have Experience With Remote Sensing Techniques, Such As Satellite Imagery Analysis, To Identify And Map Irrigation Patterns And Water Use In Agricultural Areas.

  • Strong Communication Skills: The Ability To Effectively Communicate And Collaborate With Stakeholders, Including Researchers, Farmers, And Government Agencies, Is Crucial For This Role.

  • Attention To Detail: The Intern Must Possess Strong Attention To Detail To Accurately Collect, Manage, And Analyze Data. This Includes Identifying And Resolving Any Errors Or Inconsistencies In Gis Data.
