
Medical Coding Specialist
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Coding Specialist to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for accurately assigning codes to medical diagnoses and procedures. The ideal candidate should be highly organized and have a thorough understanding of medical terminologies, coding practices, and regulations. You must be able to think critically and work independently with minimal supervision. If you’re ready to take on this important role, we would love to hear from you!Required Qualifications: -Associate's degree in Health Information Management or related field-Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification-Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding-Knowledge of medical coding standards, including ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS/CPT-4-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and medical coding software-Accurate and detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills-Strong organizational and communication skills
Responsibilities: -Accurately assign codes to medical diagnoses and procedures. -Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical coding standards, including ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS/CPT-4. -Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and medical coding software. -Stay organized and work independently with minimal supervision. -Review medical records and other documentation to identify and abstract relevant diagnosis and procedures for medical coding purposes. -Analyze and interpret medical terminology and abbreviations to ensure accuracy of coding. -Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. -Maintain confidentiality of patient data. -Audit and review medical coding for accuracy and completeness. -Provide feedback and suggestions to improve coding accuracy and efficiency. -Investigate denied claims and determine appropriate coding. -Keep up-to-date with medical coding best practices and new regulations.
