Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Linux Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team at Bloomberg. As a key member of our Infrastructure Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our Linux-based systems. Your expertise in Linux administration and troubleshooting will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and performance of our systems. We are looking for someone who is passionate about technology and has a strong background in Linux systems, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.   1. Design and implement Linux-based systems to support the company's infrastructure needs.
  2. Maintain and troubleshoot existing Linux systems, ensuring their smooth operation and performance.
  3. Continuously monitor and analyze system performance, identifying and addressing any issues or inefficiencies.
  4. Collaborate with other team members to develop and implement strategies for improving system reliability and efficiency.
  5. Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in Linux systems, and make recommendations for their integration into the company's infrastructure.
  6. Act as a subject matter expert for all things related to Linux systems, providing guidance and support to other team members.
  7. Document system configurations, processes, and procedures for future reference and training purposes.
  8. Proactively identify potential system vulnerabilities and develop solutions to mitigate them.
  9. Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical systems.
  10. Communicate effectively with team members and other stakeholders to provide status updates, troubleshoot issues, and propose solutions.
  11. Continuously seek opportunities to improve and optimize system performance, security, and reliability.
  12. Mentor and train junior team members, sharing knowledge and best practices for Linux systems administration.
  13. Adhere to company policies and procedures, including security protocols, change management processes, and incident response procedures.
  14. Maintain a high level of professionalism and represent the company's values and culture at all times.

Job Qualifications

  • Extensive Experience With Linux Operating Systems: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Deep Understanding Of Linux Operating Systems, Including Administration, Troubleshooting, And Performance Tuning. They Should Also Have Knowledge Of Linux Security, Networking, And Storage.

  • Strong Scripting And Automation Skills: A Senior Linux Systems Engineer At Bloomberg Should Possess Strong Scripting Skills, Such As Bash, Perl, Or Python, To Automate Routine Tasks And Streamline Processes. They Should Also Have Experience With Configuration Management Tools Like Chef, Puppet, Or Ansible.

  • Proficient In Virtualization And Cloud Technologies: With The Increasing Adoption Of Cloud Services, A Senior Linux Systems Engineer Should Have Hands-On Experience With Virtualization Platforms Like Vmware, Openstack, Or Kvm, And Cloud Providers Like Aws, Azure, Or Gcp.

  • Knowledge Of Containerization Technologies: As Containerization Is Becoming More Prevalent In The Industry, The Ideal Candidate Should Have Experience With Containerization Tools Like Docker, Kubernetes, Or Mesos, And Be Able To Deploy And Manage Containerized Applications.

  • Strong Troubleshooting And Problem-Solving Skills: A Senior Linux Systems Engineer Should Have Excellent Troubleshooting Skills And The Ability To Identify And Resolve Complex Technical Issues. They Should Also Possess Strong Analytical And Problem-Solving Abilities To Proactively Identify And Address Potential System Issues Before They Arise.
