Job Description

At BJC HealthCare, we are looking for a motivated Medical Coder to join our team and ensure that our patients receive the highest quality care. The successful candidate will possess excellent technical coding skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a commitment to patient care and confidentiality.The ideal candidate will have an Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology or related field, along with at least two years of experience in medical coding and the ICD-10-CM/PCS coding system. Experience with other coding systems such as CPT/HCPCS and DRG is also preferred. A professional certification from AAPC or AHIMA is a plus.We are looking for someone with a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Our Medical Coder must also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the capacity to work successfully with our team of clinicians and other members of the healthcare team. Responsibilities:

  1. Assign appropriate medical codes to patient records using ICD-10-CM/PCS coding system.
  2. Accurately document patient diagnosis, procedures, and treatments in accordance with coding standards.
  3. Maintain confidentiality of patient information according to HIPAA guidelines.
  4. Monitor coding trends and changes in coding regulations.
  5. Participate in coding audits and review medical records for accuracy.
  6. Collaborate with clinicians and other healthcare team members.
  7. Assist with training and educating staff and other personnel on coding standards and procedures.
  8. Stay current with the latest coding regulations and updates.
  9. Develop and maintain coding related policies and procedures.
  10. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
