  • Lead and oversee the inpatient coding process to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Review and analyze medical records for proper coding and documentation.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and other coding staff to resolve any coding discrepancies.
  • Stay up-to-date with coding guidelines and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Train and mentor coding staff on proper coding procedures and best practices.
  • Monitor coding productivity and quality to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement coding policies and procedures to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure coding accuracy and compliance.
  • Communicate with healthcare providers to clarify coding questions and provide education on coding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve coding-related issues and improve workflow processes.
  • Keep abreast of changes in coding regulations and provide updates to the coding team.
  • Attend coding workshops and seminars to enhance coding skills and knowledge.
  • Investigate and resolve coding-related denials and appeals.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all patient medical records.
  • Assist with other coding and billing-related tasks as needed.

Job Qualifications
  • Certification: A Lead Inpatient Coder At Bjc Healthcare Must Hold A Certified Coding Specialist (Ccs) Certification From The American Health Information Management Association (Ahima) Or A Certified Professional Coder (Cpc) Certification From The American Academy Of Professional Coders (Aapc).

  • Experience: Bjc Healthcare Requires A Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Inpatient Coding, Preferably In A Leadership Or Supervisory Role. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Strong Understanding Of Inpatient Coding Guidelines And Can Effectively Lead A Team Of Coders.

  • Knowledge Of Coding Systems: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Extensive Knowledge Of Coding Systems Such As Icd-10-Cm, Icd-10-Pcs, And Cpt. They Should Also Have A Good Understanding Of Coding Conventions And Guidelines, As Well As Experience With Electronic Health Record (Ehr) Systems.

  • Attention To Detail: Inpatient Coding Requires A High Level Of Accuracy And Attention To Detail. A Lead Inpatient Coder At Bjc Healthcare Must Be Able To Review And Analyze Complex Medical Records, Ensuring That All Diagnoses And Procedures Are Coded Correctly And In Compliance With Coding Guidelines.

  • Leadership And Communication Skills: As A Lead Coder, This Position Requires Strong Leadership And Communication Skills. The Candidate Should Have Experience In Training And Mentoring Coders, As Well As The Ability To Effectively Communicate With Physicians, Nurses, And Other Healthcare Professionals To Clarify Documentation And Ensure Accurate Coding.
